Shadow to Shine was built on a simple but radical belief;
talent is everywhere, but opportunity is not.
Everything we do is designed to close that gap.
Shadow to Shine is a London-based organisation working with young people aged 16–24 from underrepresented backgrounds. We support those who are NEET, facing multiple barriers to access, and from low socioeconomic backgrounds helping them gain direct entry into the job market and build careers they're proud of.

Founded in 2019 and operating across London, we reach around 250 young people annually across tech, fashion, and the creative industries. In five years we've supported over 3000 young people, built a network of 127 active mentors, and maintained a 60% employment success rate across our programmes.
We are grassroots in our approach and rigorous in our impact. We work closely with the communities we serve, co-designing our programmes with young people so that what we deliver is always shaped by the people it's meant for.
Where we started
Where we started...
Shadow to Shine was founded in 2019 as a Community Interest Company before transitioning to Charitable Incorporated Organisation status in 2022. What began as a grassroots response to a clear gap in provision has grown into one of London's most trusted youth employment organisations.

In six years we have built partnerships with some of the UK's most recognisable organisations, developed a three-level programme framework that meets young people wherever they are, and created an alumni community that continues to grow and give back. Two of our own team members started as programme participants; a fact we consider one of our greatest achievements!

Our provisions, our team and trustees are built on lived experience and an intimate understanding of what it feels like to navigate professional spaces without a map, without a network, and without people who look like you at the table. That experience is not incidental to what we do.
It is the foundation of it.

​The driving force behind Shadow to Shine, Jen brings personal experience of navigating barriers in professional spaces alongside strategic leadership, a systems thinking approach, and an unshakeable belief in the potential of every young person we work with.

Sharai oversees the design and delivery of our programmes, ensuring every young person who comes through our doors receives a consistent, high-quality experience. She started her own journey as a programme participant and understands the importance of personable and holistic support.
Louise Thomas

Our in house connector. Lou leads on our 'Her Future Now' programme alongside spear heading some of our strategic initiatives and special projects. She brings her Music and PR background, creativity and rigour to everything from new programme development to key partner relationships.

"When young people are given genuine access and opportunity, they don't just succeed, they excel and give back.
Our Social Media Coordinator and Programmes Manager are living proof of that, having started out as programme participants before taking up roles here with us. The investment of our community and partners, is what makes this possible.

As a Black woman who has navigated my own journey in professional spaces, I understand intimately the transformative power of access and opportunity. The barriers that many of our participants face, whether systemic, economic, or social. They are ones I have encountered myself.
​
This lived experience fuels my unwavering belief that when we create genuine pathways for young people, we don't just change individual lives, we transform entire communities and strengthen our society as a whole.
​
Social mobility isn't just a policy concept, it's the foundation of a thriving, equitable future. And when we invest in young people, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds, we unlock vast potential that has always existed but has often been overlooked or undervalued. This type of change is one that will last throughout generations to come.

The young people we work with don't need fixing, they need platforms, resources, and champions who believe in their brilliance.
The stories of success we celebrate are not exceptions, they are glimpses of what becomes possible when access meets ambition.
When I see our former participants now leading programmes, developing strategies, and mentoring the next cohort, I see the future we are building together. A future where potential is recognised and nurtured regardless of postcode, background, or circumstance."
